Summers are for Reading
“Read a book!”
“Play a game!”
“Go outside!”
Many of us were met by these words when we exclaimed to our parents, “We’re bored!”.
We have options when bored, yet we often fill our time in emptier ways.
- Scrolling Social Media.
- Consuming sports broadcasts.
- Ruminating and nursing old wounds.
- And more.
Do you have a go-to culprit when you are bored?
In extended seasons of slowing down, we sometimes don’t know what to do with our time. We have been accustomed to a faster pace, busier schedule, and more stimulation. We can engage in deeper ways in these extended seasons of slowing down.
- Taking a longer walk.
- Enjoying a more extended conversation with a friend.
- Engaging a new story or learning.
We at the Center for Spiritual Formation are big fans of reading. Our staff has a few recommendations for your reading list.
If you have books you would recommend, we’d love to know!
